Make sure no windows are open and you can see the desktop.  

Click the start square, then all apps and navigate to the item on your menu that you want to make a  shortcut for  

Right Click the Icon of the program you want a shortcut for.  

Select More  

Select "Open file location"

Right-click the icon for the program and drag it to the desktop. When you let go of the  mouse - choose “Create shortcuts here
