How to clear a paper jam

1. Power Down and Unplug:

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.

2. Open Access Panels:

Identify and open any access panels or doors that allow access to the paper path.

This might include the main printer cover, the paper tray cover, or a rear access panel.

3. Gently Remove the Paper:

Carefully remove any visible jammed paper, avoiding tearing or leaving pieces behind.

If the paper is stuck, try to pull it out in the direction it was fed into the printer.

If the paper is torn, try to remove all pieces.

4. Check for Remaining Paper:

Thoroughly inspect the paper path for any remaining pieces of paper or debris.

Even small pieces can cause future jams.

5. Clear the Paper Tray:

Remove any paper from the paper tray and check for any obstructions or debris.

Ensure the paper tray is clean and free of any issues.

6. Reload the Paper:

Reload the paper tray with the correct type and amount of paper.

Make sure the paper is properly aligned and not overloaded.

7. Close Panels and Restart:

Close all access panels and doors securely.

Plug the printer back into the power outlet and turn it on.

8. Test Print:

Try a test print to ensure the paper jam has been cleared and the printer is functioning correctly.

If the issue persists,  contact the TRC for assistance.

Tips for Preventing Paper Jams:

Use the correct type and weight of paper for your printer.

Avoid overloading the paper tray.

Keep the paper path clean and free of debris.
